when it all gets hard….

Posted by on April 7, 2014 in Featured, RGA | 0 comments

Sometimes Redgirls get a little edgy, a bit grumpy, bit over it. Our tours can be a little out of our western comfort zone. Especially if this is your first time. Living in the a tropical, jungle environment, with all the associated issues with that (bugs geckos, weird noises). Eating street food, visiting markets and temples , and the sensory overload with that. Not to mention the weather, and humidity. For some of us who are used to being by ourselves just being with other people all day every day, can be tiresome. Our experiences of...

Posted by on May 15, 2014 in Featured | 0 comments

Decided to explore the pottery scene in lombok, as my friend Sascha visited a village in Bali back in the 70s that made amazing pottery.. Pejaten was the villages name and its over in the Tabanan Regency. Twas an interesting day, driving through the country to Pejaten, i am sure it has changed a lot since Sascha first visited.. The roof tiles are made manually in hot sweaty primitive conditions .. the terracotta colour clay was made into a blob and placed on the machine. Then the handle was wound down and the tile shape was extruded. . The...

Posted by on May 10, 2014 in Featured | 0 comments

One of my Redgirls was passionate about pottery . She was really interested in exploring pottery , techniques , cooking , glazing etc. i had previously visited a village in Lombok , to organise lessons for her and my other guests. i was a little concerned as the lessons were Primitive by our standards. Sitting on crude stools on the ground , around a little wheel. I was nervous about the physicality of this as well as tourist factor , with all the people of the village coming to stare and laugh at the tourists. We arrived at the village late...

I decided to organise cooking lesson for my Redgirl guests. They were all really interested, we looked at a cooking school on the net, but they really wanted to cook in a home with a mum. Sascha came up with an idea to ask our friend Lekos wife, Made. I stay with them when I am not working and her cooking is sensational. I was so excited , what a great idea. A great opportunity to support my family . The next day we arrived at Mades house ready for some cooking, A little gas burner was set up on the verandah. All the ingredients were already...

The Jegog

Guest Blogger Kerry Dobbin At night we decided to attend the Jegog performance. Something i hadn’t experienced before but had heard a lot about. Hard to describe in words, its something primal you need to experience it yourself. The beat the rhythm, draws you in with out you even realising it. Everyone was invited on stage for the last number, and everyone went without thought or hesitation. Laying down under the massive instuments to feel the vibrations ...

Our hair creme bath

Posted by on April 25, 2014 in Featured | 0 comments

Guest Blogger Kerry Dobbin The afternoon was hot and humid. the thought of a hair creme bath was too much too resist. A short ride from our accommodation in Lodtundah to Cantika in Penestanan, and there we were. Being pampered in a lush tropical jungle setting, whilst an amazing electrical storm raged around us. The staff and their children and their dogs were so grounding and a perfect balance for the intensity and difference of the surroundings....

The time of the dream ,reflection feeling out of balance. Bliss and fear juxtaposed together, waving like a coconut tree. Feel my feet on the earth, the source, the energy, supporting me nurturing me. Give freely of thanks, blessings take a moment to relax. and breathe> Take my concerns out of myself, and the clutter and complications,. Listen to the mother. Awareness of her voice, her colour, her smells, her magnificence in simplicity. She just is, and will always be. Listen, feel , smell. be grateful. take time . The transitory of...

When , Made was away, looking for a young coconut. Jero (the young Shaman) talked to me, and told me about his life: I gathered from Made that Jero’s English wasn’t good. But his speaking english was great i wonder whether there was a higher power in his words, He said that the gods speak though him. He told me of his life and the difficulties of his path. not really chosen by him, chosen by the gods. He has no choice, he is only 26. One niight his whole family went into trance. The gods spoke through Kadek, his sister and said...
